Each Friday, we are going to be spotlighting a different staff member to introduce them to the ThriftyFun community. This week, we are featuring Fletcher
After recently cruising the office supply stores for bargains on a home scanner, I found that $100 was the best I was going to do for what I needed. That's fine, but while I needed the scanner, it will take awhile to earn its keep at that price.
A few months ago, I shared a tip, "This Year, Recycle Christmas". My family, all six kids, spouses, grandchildren and friends agreed, since many of them had had income setbacks this year. The idea was that nothing was to be bought new.
Whether the prescription is for people or pets, most of us can find at least one or two bottles containing unused or outdated medications in our medicine cabinet. When these drugs are not disposed of properly, they can cause pollution in wastewater and end up in our local waterways.
Many have heard that the typical homeowner throws money out the home's windows and doors. This saying refers to improper sealing in the home, allowing expensive heat and air conditioning to escape the house.
A great way to cut down on the cost of flower gardening is to increase your current stock of perennials using propagation techniques. With only a small amount of time and effort on your part, you can quickly increase your current plant.
Here is a video recipe for Bacon Mushroom and Onion Quiche. This was a staple of our weeknight meals growing up, and I cook it often for my own family. This one was a "clean out the fridge" meal.
Many people don't realize it, but one of the best ways to reduce your personal impact on the environment is to eat less meat. Here are some easy ways to reduce the amount of meat in your diet, eat a healthier diet, and reduce your impact on the environment all at the same time.
Cut apart a milk jug or other white plastics, clear plastic from product packaging and cut hearts in several sizes. Using your choice of cord or thread, chain stitch 20 stitches between each plastic heart (20 worked best for me). C
Gift bag made from a recycled Pop Tart Box. This is a great way to reuse empty boxes and scraps of wrapping paper and have a beautiful one of a kind gift bag.
If you're inspired to write poetry for someone special this Valentine's Day, then try making your own mini book of love poems. All you need to get started is some paper, thick card, ribbon and a few embellishments for the cover.
This item is a quilted wall hanging. Hearts are attached with a blanket stitch and have ribbon strings attached to each heart. There are loops at the top for hanging on a rod.
Heart-shaped boxes in which to present a Valentine cookie or other treat. Using the diagram as an example, draw a template the desired size. Cut two of these heart-shaped pieces from the fronts of recycled cards.
A cute little purse for the little girls in your life. Size: 6.5x7.5 inches excluding strap. Size is easily adjusted. For a deeper purse repeat round 21 until an inch less than desired depth. Then proceed with round 22.
Kids will love creating their own "froggy" Valentine cards. They will "leap" for joy making these cute cards, which require few supplies and a little time.
I save the cereal bag after we empty the box to use for many things like beating or chopping meat. Just put meat into the bag and lay it flat. Use a saucer or small plate to chop it, no mess on you or in the kitchen. I also cut the bags into fourths to use over things we heat in microwave. Saves from buying wax paper, etc. I'm very frugal, why waste anything?

Stella and Gunner are Yorkies. Stella and Gunner belong to my son Justin and his girlfriend Amanda. Stella has been a part of the family for several years now and Gunner (the one-eyed wonder) was rescued from a home this past year in Austin.
Abby is 3. She is a Cockapoo. We rescued Abby from a horrible pet store in November of 07. She loves to play with her toys and her boy, well, our son (almost 1) but she is his trusty sidekick.
Romeo is an 8 month old miniature poodle. We got Romeo for Christmas last year. Romeo loves to go for rides in the car and he loves to play in the yard. He is the sweetest dog there is, he is so loving and always want to be cuddled. Romeo is just the best friend you could have.
Sharky is one year old. He is a Yorkshire "Terror," oops Yorkshire Terrier. Sharky was rescued February of 2009 from the Humane Society. When we first saw him it brought tears to my eyes.
Our senior center is having a dinner and barbershop quartet performance in 10 days. I volunteered to decorate the tables. I'm thinking red and white striped fabric somehow and making little mini barber poles with music notes up and down the table.
I have over a hundred pop bottle lids, soda lids. I save them to redeem the points on the Coke lids. They're all red. Is there some kind of craft I can do? I can't think of anything.
I use the liquid long lasting lipstick, the type that comes with lipstick on one end and gloss the other end. The problem is they seem to dry up quickly and as they are expensive; I wondered if anyone knows how to make these last longer. Many thanks.
I have installed an oak wood floor in the kitchen. I purchased the "raw" oak, installed it, stained it and now am putting the finish coats of Varathane on it. I am using the product made by Varathane Oil Based Diamond Wood Finish.
I have a 2 year old chihuahua, her name is Bella. I got her at 12 weeks old and I had her house trained with the pee pads. Then out of the blue when she was like 8 months old she started peeing and pooping where ever she likes.
How soon after I highlight my hair can I do it again? I used a new color and it's darker than I want. It's just for highlights not all over, but I do have a lot of color in my hair. Should I use the same type of hair color or does it matter? Thanks.
My dad gave me an encyclopedia set years ago that belonged to his great-aunt. It is one huge volume that covers A-Z. I'm 50 and my dad would have been 75. I just wondered if this is worth anything?
I have a black leather contemporary sofa and a crimson red chair in my living room. My ceiling is an exposed concrete gray. Any ideas/suggestions on what color should I paint my walls (they are currently white)? Thanks.
I'm 15 and my best friend and I have a problem. Our hands sweat a lot, she just got a boyfriend, who always comments on it and thinks it's gross. With me, when people always want high fives or want to shake hands I always don't know what to do. I don't want them to judge me.
